The University of South Dakota, School of Education, invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant/associate level in Special Education. The opening is a nine-month position with the possibility of summer teaching. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate coursework; possess knowledge related to face-to-face, on-line, and other distance education delivery systems; supervise student teachers and related field experiences; advise graduate students; conduct research and scholarship within the discipline; and disseminate this research regularly in appropriate professional journals and through regional, national, and international presentations. Additional assignments may be made based on the professional and academic background of the faculty in order to complement the strengths of the Division faculty to address the diverse needs of students in programs within the Division of Curriculum and Instruction, School of Education, and university community. Excellence in teaching, research/scholarship, and service are expected.

Required Qualifications include 1) earned doctorate in Special Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field; 2) 3 years of teaching experience in special education or related disciplines in P-12 schools; and (3) demonstrated success or potential for scholarship, including external funding.

Preferences will be given to candidates who (1) have successful experience teaching in a college/university setting in a variety of delivery methods (online, face-to-face, hybrid); (2) candidates with an established research agenda and potential for external funding; and (3) candidates who possess strengths in multiple areas, such as: Cognitive Disabilities, High Incidence Disabilities, Autism spectrum disorders, empirically driven pedagogical approaches for curriculum and instruction of diverse learners, learning strategies, Special Education law and policy initiatives, effective behavior management approaches, and general characteristics and foundational principles within the discipline and related disciplines.

Candidates are required to provide evidence of accomplishments or strong potential for success in university teaching and scholarship. Applicants must have completed doctorate by August 21, 2018.
