The School of Design at South Dakota State University invites applications for an Instructor position within the Landscape Architecture Program to begin August 2018.

Responsibilities include:
• Teaching courses within the professional curriculum, including design studios, lectures, seminars, and workshops;
• Providing service to the Program.

• Terminal degree in Landscape Architecture (MLA or equivalent)
• A first-professional degree in Landscape Architecture with a terminal degree in an allied design discipline, commensurate with requirements for faculty teaching in an accredited program in Landscape Architecture by start date;
• Professional experience in Landscape Architecture (or a related field) following the completion of the professional degree;
• Expertise in professional practice (including graphics, marketing and contract administration), digital design methodologies, and design development and implementation at a variety of scales;
• Effective written and verbal communication skills;
• Effective interpersonal skills.

CLARB certification and/or a post-professional degree in Landscape Architecture or allied discipline;
• Evidence of cross-disciplinary professional work, cross-disciplinary teaching and ability to teach in another discipline within the School of Design;
• Knowledge of the regional design vernacular and industry;
LEED certification or other evidence of practice grounded in sustainable design.

Portfolios should include 1) professional, academic and/or research materials, and 2) work by students taught in an academic setting. Format: 25 pages (max.); PDF file type; 5MB (max.). SDSU is a thriving and growing land-grant university with a rich tradition of hands-on learning and material practice. Landscape Architecture at SDSU is nested within the School of Design, along with professional programs in Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design, and Studio Arts. Collectively, the School faculty form a collaborative teaching and research environment that values cross-program and interdisciplinary initiatives.

The Landscape Architecture Program is committed to initiating the accreditation process in the immediate future. The Program enrolls 60 students with the mandate of growing to 80+ students in the next four years. Our focus is on practicable landscape architecture and imbuing students with a solid understanding of the relationship between studio and site. Students’ design education is grounded in graphical inquiry, creative research, and clinical design practice in communities throughout the state.
