The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for the position of Steven P. Miller Chair at the Associate or Full Professor level. This is a 9-month, tenure-track or tenured appointment (dependent upon qualifications to warrant a tenured appointment, pending SD Board of Regents approval), with the anticipated start date of fall semester 2018. A doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or a closely related field is required.

We are seeking applicants with expertise and experience in specific areas, including, but not limited to, communications, wireless networks, advanced materials, nanotechnology, plasma engineering, robotics and automation, sensors and systems. However, exceptional candidates with research interests in all areas of Electrical and Computer Engineering are encouraged to apply.

We are looking for outstanding candidates with an international and/or national reputation with proven record for leading independent and vibrant funded scholarly graduate research programs in his/her area of expertise and demonstrate expertise to strengthen collaborative research within the department and beyond. The successful applicant is expected to develop and/or teach effectively a wide range of graduate and undergraduate courses in electrical or computer engineering with an interest or expertise in technology assisted or online teaching, advise students, and engage in service activities as assigned.

The ECE department offers two ABET accredited undergraduate degrees: a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. degree in Computer Engineering. The department also offers a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and is one of the founding members of the new campus professional Master of Engineering program. In the ECE Department, faculty leads research in the areas including antenna and wireless communications, laser photonics and laser plasmas, non-thermal plasmas, robotics and autonomous systems, computer vision, machine learning, and cyber security.
