The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at South Dakota State University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month Instructor of Advertising. SDSU is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to and/or coordinate course offerings that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations. We seek candidates to teach courses in Advertising.

• Earned Doctorate in Advertising or a closely related field and five years of
relevant professional advertising experience or a Master’s degree in Advertising or a closely related field and 10 years of relevant professional advertising experience;
• Demonstrated ability to teach Advertising courses, including Digital Media Strategies, Analytics and Data Analysis within communication disciplines;
• Demonstrated effective written communication skills; and
• Demonstrated effective oral communication interpersonal relations skills.

Preference will be given to candidates who have international advertising experience.

Department Description and Cultural Expectations

South Dakota State University is the state’s largest, most comprehensive higher education institution. As South Dakota’s Morrill Act land-grant university, SDSU had a fall 2016 enrollment of 12,613 students from all 50 states and 85 countries. Students choose from 73 majors, 36 specializations, 75 minors, 35 master’s degree programs, 15 Ph.D. programs, and two professional doctorates.

With approximately 200 undergraduate majors, 40 graduate students, and 11 full-time faculty, the ACEJMC-accredited Department of Journalism and Mass Communication offers majors in Advertising, Journalism, and Public Relations. In summer 2018, the department will become part of the School of Communication and Journalism.
