Serve as the advisor to the 4-H program in Bon Homme and Douglas Counties (Armour, SD and Tyndall, SD) managing local 4-H operational elements identified as priorities in accordance with all policies and procedures administered by the state 4-H program. Develop and deliver educational programs in the programming priority areas of leadership, science, Ag-Vocacy, and health and relationships along with other topics identified through informal and formal needs assessments. Establish working relationships and coalitions with other youth-serving groups to ensure maximum opportunities for youth. Provide leadership for volunteer management, including identification, orientation, training and recognition, for both youth and adults, to ensure the capacity to offer programming is maintained and grown over time. Maintain an effective and efficient communication network with the Bon Homme and Douglas County Commissions, other 4-H Youth Program Advisors, Extension Field Specialists, volunteers, partnering organizations, stakeholders, and the public. Position does require some evening and weekend work and travel. Occasional overnight stays for statewide SDSU Extension 4-H events are required. Support the land-grant University, SDSU Extension mission and vision, 4-H philosophy, policies and procedures.

Bachelor’s degree in Child, Youth or Human Development, or Education. A Bachelor’s degree in Science and or Agriculture or other related field is accepted if it includes coursework related to youth development, education, and/or volunteer development, or candidate has relevant experience working with youth in a professional or volunteer capacity prior to beginning employment. May 2018 graduates will be considered. Must be able to use a personal computer for basic word processing, internet based programs, social media, and e-mail. Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing is essential. Must have a valid driver’s license and personal auto or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

Demonstrated experiences planning, teaching, and evaluating educational programs for youth audiences; demonstrated ability to manage local operational elements of the 4-H Youth Development program that includes event management, budget management, committee coordination, etc.; demonstrated ability to lead volunteer groups and committees and to work with other youth-serving groups and coalitions to maximize opportunities for youth; ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences and demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.

This position is located in Armour, SD and Tyndall, SD.
