The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA) is offering an exciting career opportunity as a Data Visualization Developer and Analyst. This is a 12-month, full-time, benefit-eligible position. This position is supervised by the Assistant Director of Institutional Research. The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA) advances the University’s mission by facilitating an integrated approach to institutional research, assessment, continuous improvement, and data-informed decisions in support of institutional effectiveness, teaching, and learning.

The Analyst works within Institutional Research to provide expertise in the creation of decision support tools and reports to support campus-wide data visualizations and data analysis. This position will compile multiple visualizations into intuitive dashboards for campus-wide use. The Analyst will work with members of the entire campus community to define data analytic needs and reporting requirements. This position will design, code, test, extract data and aggregate results from queries to generate complex analyses, reports, dashboards, and visualizations that support decision making and planning at all levels of the University. This position will also assure the accuracy and integrity of data and assists in support and training with end users to maximize their ability to use the decision support system and/or dashboards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Statistics; Computer Science; Data Science; Social Sciences; or a closely related technical field by start date.
• At least one year of experience in an Institutional Research or Institutional Effectiveness office (or related work).
• Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Expertise in statistical programming, data management, data visualization software and research tools (e.g Cognos, Qualtrics, SPSS, R, Stat, SAS, SQL, Tableau, etc.).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s degree.
• Quantitative and analytical skills.
• Experience in using databases with a content emphasis in higher education (enterprise or derivative) systems (e.g. Banner, Colleague, etc.).
• Ability to effectively prioritize a wide variety of unrelated projects while under firm deadlines.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and with college departments across the University and cross-functional teams.
• Ability to problem solve and assure the accuracy and integrity of data.
• Experience working with postsecondary data and institutional research including interpretation and presentation of data, plus knowledge of SAS, R, SPSS, SQL, Cognos, and/or Tableau.
• Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of South Dakota State University.
