South Dakota State University Extension is offering an opportunity as an Extension Associate-beefSD Coordinator. This is a 12 month, full-time, benefit-eligible position. The position is grant-funded and therefore continuation of the position is contingent upon future funding beyond the current grant.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan, coordinate, and conduct daily activities of ongoing multi-year educational programs serving beginning agriculture producers in South Dakota. Develop and implement detailed curriculum based on framework described in grant proposals. Serve as liaison between Extension, partner organizations, and program mentors. Coordinate all major and minor activities sponsored by grant programs, organize specific details of each activity, including agenda, transportation, food, and related needs. Communicate all pertinent information to project team, partners, and participants in a timely manner. Raise funds to support the program through grantsmanship and donations. Manage financial accounts from grants and donations to maintain fiduciary responsibility. Evaluate programs to ensure desired outcomes are achieved. Write reports to funding entities and publish Extension articles about the programs.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Ag Economics, Range Science, Animal Science or a closely related field completed by date of application
  • At least 15 years of Extension outreach experience focused on the beef industry
  • Experience working with beef producers, agriculture-related producer organizations, allied industries, and other partners
  • Established relationships with leadership of the agriculture industry in South Dakota
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as a contributing team member
  • Demonstrated use of technology in managing and/or delivering educational programs
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational materials and direct effective programs
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel
  • Trained and certified “Total SDI Facilitator” (see corestrengths.com)
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.  Sponsorship is not available for this position
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 7 or more years of experience specific to coordinating outcome-based programming using a learning community approach 
  • Master’s degree in Marketing, Ag Economics, Range Science, Animal Science, or closely related field

Work Hours
Normal hours are 8am-5pm M-F with schedule adjustment for special projects or deadlines. Some jobs require the incumbent to work additional hours very early in the morning, evenings and/or weekends. These irregular work hours occur for many reasons such as required participation at meetings and work events.
