The Physical Education department at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology welcomes applications for a physical education teaching position. This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited position. The instructor is expected to teach undergraduate classes in the area of Strength and Conditioning.  The anticipated start date is October 2021.
 
The Instructor will be required to prepare and submit a course syllabus in accordance with accreditation standards; provide meaningful instruction, assessments, and feedback to students; present engaging learning experiences; respond to students in a timely manner; communicate regularly with the department chair; submit the required course data including midterm and final grades regularly; and, comply with other university requests as needed.
 
The Physical Education instructor is expected to explain and demonstrate safe and effective use of all sport and exercise equipment; offer modifications for multiple skill levels; monitor and assist class participants utilizing equipment; prioritize the safety of all class participants; properly respond to risk management issues; and submit all required documentation of all emergency and injury situations per university policies. Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
 
A Bachelor’s degree in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience in lieu of a Master’s degree is required.  Professional certification, licensure, or specialization in the area of instruction is also required.
 
A Master’s degree in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education or a related field is preferred.  Work experience, prior teaching experience, or published and/or presented research in the field is also preferred.
