The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at either the Assistant, Associate or Professor level related to Geotechnical Engineering. An earned doctorate in Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline, and evidence of excellence in teaching and research are required. We seek candidates who will establish a strong externally funded research program, contribute to the CEE PhD program, and have the ability to teach courses related to geotechnical engineering at both the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as other fundamental civil engineering courses. Particular areas of expertise sought for this position include asphalt materials, bio-geotechnics, and geo-environmental as well as areas which complement current strengths of the department and extend opportunities for cross-disciplinary research. Existing areas of expertise at SD Mines include earthquake engineering, liquefaction, numerical modeling, ground improvement, lightweight fill, bio-geotechnics, foundation design, deep foundations, slope stability, and landslides. Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated ability to develop and perform collaborative research, hold a bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited engineering program or equivalent, and have obtained professional licensure.
