The Department of Counseling and Human Development is seeking applications for part-time, non-tenure-track teaching positions at the Instructor level for Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. SDSU is especially interested in candidates who have experience teaching Counseling and Human Development core courses in a higher education environment. Individuals may teach 1 – 2 courses per semester in the classroom or online, contingent upon enrollment and qualifications. Appointments may be by semester. The role of this individual will be to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses and participate in program assessment. SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to and/or coordinate course offerings that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations. • Master’s Degree in the area of Human Development and Family Studies, Counseling or related discipline by December 2017.
• Potential for effective teaching and a commitment to quality instruction.
• Demonstrated experience in dissemination of information related to Human Development and Family Studies and/or Counseling.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Human Development and Family Studies and/or Counseling
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Commitment to equality and diversity.

• Previous higher education teaching experience.
• Demonstrated experience in Human Development and Family Studies or Counseling.
• Doctorate in Human Development and Family Studies or Counseling.
• Evidence or strong interest in working with diverse groups.

Department Description and Cultural Expectations

SDSU is a land grant institution and the state’s largest institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 13,000 students. The Department of Counseling and Human Development is located in the College of Education and Human Sciences. The College houses 15 majors and 22 minors, and serves roughly 2,200 students each year. Faculty in the Human Development and Family Studies area are collegial and supportive of each other’s scholarship.

SDSU is located in Brookings, South Dakota, a community of approximately 23,000 on the eastern border of South Dakota, just off Interstate 29. The city has an excellent K-12 education system, is accessible to major medical facilities, has an active cultural and social environment, and has numerous lakes and parks within driving distance. Sioux Falls, a city of 170,000 is 50 miles south of Brookings; about a 45-minute drive. The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota, are 200 miles east of Brookings.
