The College of Arts & Sciences is offering an exciting opportunity for Temporary Part-Time Instructors teaching in two unique and growing undergraduate degree programs. The Interdisciplinary Studies major is an individualized, rigorous degree program serving both traditional and non-traditional learners who have unique goals for their higher education experience. The Bachelor of General Studies major is a degree-completion program targeting returning adult learners seeking upward mobility. The College is especially interested in creative and innovative professionals with knowledge of interdisciplinary problem solving strategies, expertise in teaching in a higher education setting, and ability to engage with honors and non-traditional students. Individuals may teach up to two courses per term contingent upon qualifications. Appointments may vary by semester, including online and campus classes, depending upon program needs and enrollment. Expected start date is August, 2018. Regardless of delivery method, Instructors must be available to hold office hours on campus commensurate with assigned teaching load.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Temporary Part-Time Instructors primarily teach undergraduate courses and participate in program assessment as relevant to the course(s) taught. Possible courses may include Foundations and Research Methods in Interdisciplinary Studies and the capstone experience in General Studies. The courses are writing intensive, requiring individual consultation with students regarding their drafts. Regular communication with Program Coordinators is required to support advising, assessment data collection and reporting outcomes. Temporary Part-Time Instructors are not assigned advisees but are expected to communicate regarding student progress via the campus-wide early alert system.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s Degree in a discipline relevant to SDSU’s College of Arts and Sciences or a related interdisciplinary field of study completed by first day of employment;
• Demonstrated teaching effectiveness and commitment to quality instruction;
• Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
• Literacy in D2L or similar course management platform;
• Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;
• Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Terminal Degree in a discipline relevant to SDSU’s College of Arts and Sciences or a related interdisciplinary field of study;
• Demonstrated online teaching effectiveness;
• Prior interdisciplinary or multi-disciplinary research experience;
• Prior experience teaching or advising non-traditional or adult learners.
