Full-time, tenure track, nine month position. Duties of the position include teaching undergraduate and graduate levels of graphic design in a BFA/MFA program. The curriculum requires knowledge of design methodology, Adobe Creative Cloud, typography, package design, publication design, information design, branding design, etc. as well as contemporary theory and concepts in art and design. Faculty members are responsible for professional creative scholarship/research, teaching, service, participation in student reviews and critiques, maintaining and operating a safe studio environment, student recruiting and serving as a mentor to students in and out of the classroom. As part of a normal workload you may be asked to teach online courses. Participation in Inclusive Excellence by undertaking outreach to diverse communities (multicultural student organizations, Native American community, GLBTIQ community, Latino community, veterans, women, etc.) on and off campus is encouraged. Appointment will begin in August 22, 2018.

MFA in graphic design, visual communication, or equivalent from an accredited institution is required. Knowledge of current practice and theory in graphic design both print and digital media is required. An established creative scholarship/research program is desirable. Professional client-based experience or comparable achievements in their area of expertise is preferred. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organization skills are required. At least two-years of college level teaching experience is preferred.

The Department of Art, a community of approximately 133 undergraduate majors, 10-15 graduate students and 9 full-time art faculty, is the only visual arts program in South Dakota to offer the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (emphasis areas include ceramics, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture or art education) and Master of Fine Arts degree (emphasis areas include graphic design, painting, printmaking or sculpture) and is part of the only College of Fine Arts in the State of South Dakota.
