The College of Education and Human Sciences at SDSU invites applications for a Manager of Aviation Facilities in the Aviation Education Program to begin as soon as possible.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Public Administration, Business, Education, or related field completed by or start date;
• At least 3 years of related experience in one of the following areas: Aviation, Public Administration, Business, or Education;
• Effective written and verbal communication skills;
• Effective interpersonal skills;
• The ability to manage multiple complex daily tasks, from working with students to working with the FAA, the VA, to aircraft acquisitions.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree with Aviation, Public Administration, Business, Education, or related field;
• Five years in aviation training, aviation education and/or an aviation-related facility management position;
• Five years of full time work experience in higher education or aviation-related facility;
• Ability to work well with students, staff, and others who walk through the door;
• Budget/forecasting/auditing experience;
• Experience with accreditation/assessment;
• Demonstration of effective customer service.

Primary functions and responsibilities of this position include:
Directly supervise Chief Flight Instructor, Director of Maintenance, support staff, and provide day-to-day guidance and direction to department’s temporary workforce; and indirectly supervise Aviation Trainers; conduct evaluations, hires and terminates, and has ability to work directly with HR on payroll/rate of pay/raise issues; assist with accurate and complete training records as required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations to ensure full compliance to protect the SDSU’s FAA FAR Part 141 Flight School designation; development, execution, and management of the budget and address financial issues; serve as primary recruiter for the aviation program; assist in assigning students with flight staff; manage the admission process and student flight plans; intensely track and forecast student progress; aircraft acquisitions, trades, and sales, including collaboration with the Chief of Maintenance to evaluate and purchase aircraft; coordinate with the Academic Advisor to provide guidance to students regarding academic courses; assist with VA coordination and problem solving; coordinate and manage student tours, airline career events, (including recruiting events), student outreach and portable simulator project needs at schools, air shows, and conferences; coordinate aviation related summer camps; supervise and manage web development, social media, and marketing and public relations processes; facilities management, including coordination and supervision of facilities- weather dispatch, ramp, FAA Testing center, and simulation center, etc.; a focus on program quality, including providing significant input on assessment, program accreditation, and other required reports; build relationships and work with staff to address CFI shortages; provide outreach to students and the portable simulator project; develop and implement a Safety Management System (SMS); and other duties as appropriate and required.

The Department of Consumer Sciences is one of the four departments in the College of Education and Human Sciences, with undergraduate major programs in Aviation, Hospitality Management, Apparel Merchandising, Consumer Affairs, Leadership and Management of Nonprofit Originations (LMNO), and Master’s programs in Financial Planning and Merchandising.

The Aviation program at SDSU is an integral part of the Department of Consumer Sciences in the College of Education and Human Sciences. The full-time Manager of Aviation Facilities will join a strong team of faculty and staff and will be part of an intimate faculty-to-student ratio that attracts strong, bright and engaged students. Over the past few years, the program has built a positive reputation across the region for professionally focused aviation students.
