The Construction & Operations Management Department at South Dakota State University invites applications for a full-time Instructor for our Construction Management program starting August 2018. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to mentor and grow future leaders of the construction industry. We enjoy strong support from our industry partners in the commercial, heavy-highway-utilities, and residential construction sectors.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching courses primarily in the areas of: Pre-Construction Estimating, Construction Methods and Materials, Structures, and Sustainable Construction. We are particularly interested in candidates with industry experience in the heavy construction field and/or application of Lean principles in construction. Other duties will include program assessment and curriculum development; student advising and mentoring; scholarship of teaching and learning; outreach to the university, community, and profession; and duties as assigned by the Department Head.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in a field related to Construction by start date; 3 years relevant domestic construction-related industry experience; effective written and verbal communication skills; effective interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Additional years of industry experience in a supervisory role; evidence of quality teaching experience at the post-secondary level; terminal degree in a field related to construction or applied management; evidence of ability to perform industry outreach.

South Dakota State University is the public land-grant institution with 12500 students. The Construction and Operations Management Department is one of five departments in the Jerome J. Lohr College of Engineering serving 1600 undergraduate and graduate students. The 13 faculty member COM Department serves 300 students in its undergraduate programs, which include Construction Management, Operations Management, and Electronics Engineering Technology plus graduate programs in Operations Management and Engineering. We also provide service courses to undergraduate architecture and graduate engineering programs. The CM program is ABET accredited.
