The Program Advisor for the University Program Council is a member of the Division of Student Affairs which is committed to the implementation of a practical student development philosophy. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, progressive student activities/union program dedicated to the continuing personal growth and development of students and staff.

The Program Advisor for the University Program Council is responsible for the
administration and advisement of a premier SDSU student leadership group, The University Program Council (UPC). The organization is charged with recruiting, contracting, and executing entertainment and social awareness programming for the SDSU student body as well as the development of student leaders engaged in the organization.

SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to and/or coordinate course offerings that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations. Women, minorities, veterans, and people with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.

1. Provide primary advisement to the University Program Council (UPC) including
the executive team, nine coordinators, and a wide variety of volunteer committee members.
2. Negotiate, in collaboration with the Assistant Director for Student Activities, contractual agreements for all UPC-related programs and events.
3. Oversee student leadership development, budget management, coordinator selection/evaluation, and central communication efforts related to UPC.
4. Represent the Union and the Office of Student Activities to other University and community organizations.
5. Serve as a programming resource to the University community.
6. Contribute to student success initiatives as identified by departmental leadership.

Required Qualifications
Earned Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Communication, Events & Facilities Administration, Hospitality Management, or related field and at least one year of event planning or student programming experience; ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff; effective human relations skills; and effective communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with college students, especially in an advisory role; ability to apply
student development theory.

South Dakota State University (SDSU) is a land grant institution with an enrollment of approximately 12,500 students. SDSU is located in Brookings, South Dakota, a community of approximately 23,657 people near the east central border of South Dakota on Interstate 29. Brookings has an excellent K-12 education system, is accessible to major medical facilities, has an active cultural and social environment and has numerous lakes and parks within driving distance.
