The Department of Psychology at South Dakota State University invites applications for Part-Time Instructors, appointment beginning in August 2018 with the possibility of summer teaching in August 2019. This is a renewable, non-tenure track appointment. We seek outstanding teachers who will complement our dedicated and collaborative faculty. Candidates are desired for teaching courses in Brookings, Sioux Falls, and/or online. Continuing appointment will be based on performance and funding.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses that will include various combinations of courses taught throughout the curriculum. Hence, the ability to teach several courses in diverse areas is a plus. The successful applicant will be expected to teach with a variety of effective pedagogical and technological teaching methods.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters or Ph.D. in Psychology or closely related field completed by beginning date of appointment. If Master’s degree, must have a minimum of 18 graduate level credit hours in Psychology.
- Experience with undergraduate teaching or strong desire/interest in undergraduate teaching.
- Ability and/or interest in teaching a variety of psychology courses.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior teaching experience with online courses.

Department Description and Cultural Expectations

UNIVERSITY/COMMUNITY:
SDSU is a land grant institution and the state’s largest institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 12,600 students. The Department of Psychology is an undergraduate program with approximately 275 majors, seven tenured or tenure-track faculty, and two Instructor-level faculty members. Women and men are equally represented in our faculty. We have a strong emphasis on quality undergraduate education and excellent success in placing students in graduate programs.

SDSU is located in Brookings, South Dakota, a community of approximately 23,000 near the east central border of South Dakota on Interstate 29. The city has an excellent K-12 education system, is accessible to major medical facilities, has an active cultural and social environment, and has numerous lakes and parks within driving distance. It is 50 miles north of Sioux Falls, a city of about 178,500.
