This position is a Postdoctoral Researcher position in Dr. Pere Miro’s research group in the Chemistry Department of the University of South Dakota. This position involves research in the area of theoretical/computational chemistry using state-of-the-art multilevel computational methodologies.

The research focuses on the study of dynamic properties and chemical reactivity in confined spaces with application to surfactant-based separations and catalysis inside nanoporous systems. The postdoctoral researcher is expected to perform his/her research with a high degree of scientific independence using state-of-the-art quantum mechanics and molecular simulation software, present his/her research at national and international scientific meetings and prepare scientific publications.

Supported by Chemistry Department, the University of South Dakota, and the South Dakota Board of Regents, Dr. Pere Miro’s computational laboratory has access to USD’s high-performance computational resources (e.g. Lawrence Supercomputer) and quantum mechanics software packages including Gaussian16, Amsterdam Density Functional, Turbomole, VASP, Bagel, and Molcas.

The postdoctoral researcher will acquire experience in modeling dynamic properties and chemical reactivity in confined spaces using multilevel computational methodologies, fluency performing research in an HPC environment, familiarity density functional theory and classical molecular simulations methods, and practice in transition state theory, reaction kinetics, and statistical thermodynamics, as well as professional development.

The ideal candidate for this position should have expertise in a solid publication list, be highly motivated, excellent technical oral and writing skills and think independently. Leadership in a team of graduate and undergraduate students is expected. A Ph.D. in theoretical/computational chemistry, or related fields is required.

Review of applications will begin February 20th, 2018 and continue until the position is filled. The initial appointment is funded for two years, and continuation after the initial two years is subject to funding and performance.

Applicants must apply online at https://yourfuture.sdbor.edu by submitting a CV and letter of interest. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent directly to Pere Miro at Pere.Miro@usd.edu.
