The Department of Chemistry and Applied Biological Sciences at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology seeks applications for a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to support the Applied Biological Sciences (ABS) undergraduate degree program. The rapidly developing ABS program, established in 2013, trains/educates students at the interface of the disciplines of biology and engineering preparing students for diverse careers in the biology-related disciplines including molecular biology, biomedical sciences, health care, pharmaceutical sciences, environmental sciences, biotechnology, education, law, and others. Teaching will include basic and advanced courses to support the ABS program, which has emphasis areas in molecular biology, pre-biomedical engineering, environmental science, and pre-health. The successful candidate is expected to develop an externally funded research program that complements the strengths of the department and interdisciplinary graduate programs. The involvement of undergraduates in research is expected. A Ph.D. within the Biological Sciences or a closely related discipline, and the relevant post-doctoral experience, are required. The anticipated start date is in August 2018.

In addition to the bachelor degree in Applied Biological Sciences, the department offers an ACS-certified bachelor degree in Chemistry. A faculty member in the department can participate in interdisciplinary graduate programs including Biomedical Engineering (BME), Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences (AES), Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (NANO), and Materials Engineering and Science (MES).
