Are you ready to make an impact? The Employee Relations Specialist at SDSU performs a variety of duties to promote employee welfare, such as resolving human relations problems and promoting employee health and well-being. The Employee Relations Specialist is a full time, benefit – eligible, non-faculty exempt position that is primarily responsible for investigating and guiding supervisors through performance issues, discipline processes, and grievances. The successful candidate will work with university leaders to provide guidance and training on employee relations issues as well as helping them to navigate the more complex issues as they arise. The Employee Relations Specialist will interview employees and discuss personnel, human relations, and performance related problems that adversely affect morale, health, and productivity. This person also evaluates and resolves human resources, labor relations, and performance related problems, and meets with administration to determine appropriate action. The Employee Relations Specialist explains and provides advice to employees about university, SDBOR and state rules, regulations, and procedures, and the need for compliance.


• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Law, or related field by time of appointment;
• At least three (3) years of Human Resources experience (performance management, discipline process, grievance processes);
• Demonstrated ability to use discretion and excellent judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work under multiple deadlines;
• Demonstrated ability to influence others and be persuasive when facing resistance;
• Demonstrated ability to conduct an investigative interview;
• Strong organizational and analytical skills;
• Ability to work effectively with people at varying levels within the University;
• Customer service focus;
• Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills;
• Must be able to utilize all Microsoft Office products including Power Point, Excel and Outlook.

• Experience working in higher education;
• Knowledge of Title IX regulations;
