The Veterans Resource Center Coordinator is responsible for all facets of the SD Mines Veterans Resource Center (VRC), including program development/implementation, administration, supervision, and evaluation of the related programs. The goals of the VRC Coordinator will be to improve the quality of our educational services by seamlessly combining existing and new efforts to best attract and assist veterans and their dependents seeking engineering and science degrees. This will be accomplished through:

•managing and sustaining a Veterans Resource Center;
•supervising the Veterans Resource Center work-study students;
•improving the quality of service provided veterans by increasing the awareness of veterans’ needs among faculty, staff, and other students;
•increasing veterans’ seamless access to information, starting with the inquiry/application process, advancing to the transition to collegiate life, and culminating in degree completion and job placement;
•improving the academic advising of veterans by increasing student-to-student mentoring and faculty advising;
•planning and implementing veterans’ orientations for spring and fall semesters.

A Bachelor’s degree is required. Desirable qualifications include experience in a services office; higher education; oral communication skills to include planning and presenting to large audiences; expertise or transferable skills in all aspects of program administration, personnel supervision, development and monitoring of budgets, writing program reports, and conducting program evaluations; demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships with faculty, campus officials, staff, community agencies, and students from diverse backgrounds; ability to maintain confidentiality; persons with similar backgrounds to the target population are encouraged to apply.

The Coordinator of the Veterans Resource Center will report to the Manager of Career and Professional Development. This is a full-time, 12-month benefited position. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
