South Dakota GEARUP at Black Hills State University is seeking mature, experienced, caring Group Leaders for the upcoming Summer Honors Program at Black Hills State University located in Spearfish, SD.

The Group Leaders (GL) will be responsible for the care and well-being of a small group of students ranging from grades 9-12 on the campus of Black Hills State University. The position requires the Group Leaders to live on campus for three weeks and at Placerville Camp for one week. Pay is $3000/mo. (June 5-29, 2018).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
*Learn, enforce, and follow ALL safety guidelines associated with the Summer Honors Program and BHSU and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your students safety and their whereabouts at all times
*Facilitate and implement daily program activities (educational, social, and athletic) and supervise all participants in the residential housing, chaperone all scheduled educational field trips, and perform other duties as they relate to the safety and supervision of the students
*Provide technical assistance in designing program activities
*Learn and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the Summer Honors Program and BHSU
*Remain highly visible to students and staff throughout the course of the program
*Serve as role models and mentors for all participants
*Help to maintain accurate program records including incident reports, any logbook documentation, and daily attendance
*Attend mandatory staff orientation June 5-7, 2018

Must have an undergraduate degree and 5 years of professional experience in education or a related field. Must be able to pass a South Dakota background check. Able to live on the BHSU Campus for the entire three weeks. Desire and proven ability to work successfully with children of all ages. Demonstrated responsibility and dependability. Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment. Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities. Ability to work in a cooperative, team-oriented environment. Possess strong organizational and communication skills and be able to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision. Will be required to perform additional duties as assigned.
Have a valid South Dakota driver’s license. Experience in recreation, youth camp, youth programs (educational and/or recreational), and/or working directly with children. First Aid/CPR Certified. UMA (Unlicensed Medication Assistant) certification.

Physical Demands:
*Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, canoeing, swimming, team building initiatives, building campfires, physical games, and activities.
*Must have the ability to restrain and/or physically support children when needed for safety in general program activities and other times as needed.
