South Dakota GEARUP at Black Hills State University is seeking mature, responsible, experienced Overnight Staff employees for the upcoming Summer Honors Program at Black Hills State University located in Spearfish, SD.

The Overnight Staff employees will be responsible for the care and well-being of a large group of students ranging from grades 9-12 between the hours of 11:00pm-7:00am on the campus of Black Hills State University and at Placerville Camp located 9 miles from Rapid City, SD. The position requires the Overnight Staff to live on campus for one week at Placerville Camp during the program (June 24-29, 2018). Pay is $2500.00/mo. (June 5-29, 2018).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
*Be present to ensure the safety and well-being of students ranging from grades 9-12 between the hours of 11:00pm-7:00am every night.
*Learn and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the Summer Honors Program and BHSU.
*Learn, enforce, and follow ALL safety guidelines associated with the Summer Honors Program and BHSU and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your students safety and their whereabouts at all times.
*Patrols buildings and grounds by foot to ensure personal and property safety.
*Perform nightly duties which may include, but are not limited to, identifying and responding to participant behavior issues, assisting in monitoring the dormitory and ensuring that all participants are in their assigned rooms and do not enter other participants rooms or leave the dormitory without a GEAR UP staff member present; communicating with BHSU Security, and/or Spearfish Police Department, and/or Senior GEAR UP Staff to report incidents that require immediate response and/or immediate attention.
*Maintain accurate program records including incident reports, any logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
*Attend mandatory staff orientation June 5-7, 2018.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Knowledge of: methods of crime prevention, law enforcement and security procedures and techniques. Must be able to pass a South Dakota background check. The ability to live on the BHSU Campus for the entire four weeks. Desire and ability to work with children of all ages. Demonstrated responsibility and dependability. Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment. The ability to deal with hostile and irate people in a tactful manner while enforcing both campus policies and state laws. The ability to exercise tact, patience and discretion in dealing with people of varying backgrounds and temperament. The ability to record and recall information concisely and accurately. Possess strong organizational and communication skills. Will be required to perform additional duties as assigned.
Preferred:
Have a valid South Dakota driver’s license. Experience in recreation, youth camp, youth programs (educational and/or recreational), and/or working directly with children. First Aid/CPR Certified. 2 years of law enforcement or security experience.

Physical Demands:
*Must have the ability to restrain and/or physically support residents when needed for safety in general program activities and other times as needed.
