South Dakota GEAR UP at Black Hills State is seeking mature, experienced, caring Classroom Aides for the upcoming Summer Honors Program at Black Hills State University located in Spearfish, SD.

The Classroom Aides will be responsible for the care and well-being of a group of students ranging from grades 9-12 on the campus of Black Hills State University.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Classroom Aide (CA) will be responsible for assisting their instructor’s with daily coursework duties on the campus of Black Hills State University. The CA will also be available for all pre-program, program, and post-program duties. This a full-time 40 hour/week position. The CA will make copies, take attendance, deliver any messages when needed, chaperone all scheduled educational field trips, and perform other duties as assigned that relate to academic tasks or the safety of students.

While on contract for the 4 weeks (June 5- June 29, 2018) Classroom Aides will be expected to:
*Manage classroom behavior and enforce rules
*Remain highly visible to students and staff throughout the course of the program
*Serve as role models and mentors for all participants
*Perform daily duties based on assigned class/instructor
*Assist Instructor during class and help monitor students in various learning environments
*Work directly with students practicing reading/writing, math, science and other subjects
*Ensure that students move efficiently between classes on campus and are on-time to class
*Assist with preparation for classes and activities
*Assist with data entry and data collection
*Attend mandatory staff orientation June 5-7, 2018

QUALIFICATIONS: Must have completed at least 3 years of college – undergraduate degree preferred. Must be able to pass a South Dakota background check. Have a valid South Dakota driver’s license. This a full-time commitment for the entire 6 weeks. This unique opportunity involves being a role model and mentor while maintaining a high level of professionalism. If applicable, candidates must be in good standing per their respective institution. Must possess strong organization skills and have demonstrated leadership skills. Must be kind, helpful, a self-starter, professional and creative. Proven ability to easily adapt to changing situations and should take the lead when necessary and appropriate. Experience in recreation, youth camp, youth programs (educational and/or recreational), and/or working directly with children. Will be required to perform additional duties as assigned.
