The Department of Chemistry and the Center for Fluorinated Functional Materials at the University of South Dakota is currently seeking a postdoctoral researcher who is interested in working on the synthesis and characterization of fluorinated materials for various applications including, but not limited to, organic semiconductors, high performance energy storage devices (batteries and supercapacitors), and fluorinated polymeric thin films for sensor, catalysis, and separation. The research involves synthesis, characterization, and computational investigations of new types of fluorinated functional materials.

The ideal candidate for this position should be highly motivated, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and independent thinking and problem solving skills. Candidates with background in any of the following three research areas will be considered, 1) synthetic organic chemistry including fluorine chemistry, 2) electrochemistry including electroanalytical chemistry, and 3) computational chemistry. Applicants who have combined research experiences in any two of these fields will be given greater priority. The appointment start date is June 22, 2018.

Minimum requirement PhD in chemistry.

This position is grant funded and supported by multiple federal funding agencies, the State of South Dakota, the Chemistry Department and the Center for Fluorinated Functional Materials at USD, allow for cutting edge research on fluorinated functional materials. The incoming postdoc will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Haoran Sun, director of the Center for Fluorinated Functional Materials.
